Fourth and Humboldt

For the Fourth of July we went camping at Humboldt Redwood State Park.  It was awesome!  I'd seen redwoods before, but camping in them was an especially awesome experience.  Ignore the Union Jack, (Loyalists!).

They're SO big.

We took the kids on a 2-3 mile hike to see imaginably named "Tall Tree".  Very cool and the kids did great.  I wondered whether Fish would be able to make it and he did!

"Stand back everyone!  I'm going to do science!"  For reference here, I'm over six feet tall and this tree on it's side was taller than me.

We took lots of breaks and counted tree rings.

180 degree panorama.

Uncle is a hero!

The tree next to Tall Tree was cooler because it has places to climb.

After the hike, the kids wanted to go swimming in the river.  Fish fell asleep on the drive over.  Completely tuckered out.  But not before he finished a bag of freeze dried berries.

Roasting marshmallows after dinner.

Lil' blondie found the chocolate.  I'm sorry to report that she didn't get any.

The next morning before breakfast.  I'm getting coals ready to cook my favorite camping breakfast, "Mountain Man Breakfast".  Basically eggs, potatoes, cheese, and bacon cooked in a dutch oven.  We added onions and bell peppers to half for the adults.

Picking up pine cones.  And here's our new tent.  Ostensibly it sleeps nine.  Maybe, maybe not, but I can stand up inside.  That's awesome.

My beauties!

More swimming in the river.  This was an even better spot, less deep and full of smallish fish.

Another girl swimming there took it upon herself to teach Daisy how to use a boogie board.  That was super nice of her.

Fish brought his squirt gun and shot whoever he could!
