Park Shoot

Before our cousins moved we did some playing at a park.

Ortho

I don't usually use real names here because I'm a little paranoid, but last Christmas my Dad was able to introduce my wife and me to Ortho Fairbanks, a prominent LDS sculptor.  We visited him in his home and he showed us some of his work and where he worked.

It was really inspiring.  It made us want to sculpt as well.

It was also surreal because on unadorned shelves made of planks of wood and filing cabinets, were double rows of beautiful bronze sculptures.

Part of Ortho's notoriety is he was able to physically examine the death masks of the prophet Joseph Smith (Founder of the LDS church) and Joseph's brother.  Using those masks he sculpted a bust of the prophet which is about as accurate as we can get.

He graciously invited us into his home and showed us around.  He answered our naive questions with patience and was in every way a gentleman.  He passed away last month at the age of 90.  Thank you Ortho, it was a pleasure to meet you!

2015 Reunion 1

In June we took a weekend and attended a family reunion.  It was great visiting with cousins and goofing off!

After that we went to my brother-in-law and sister-in-law's place.

This is what we won in the family game.  We played Kahoot.it.  You get to make up the questions and then anyone that has a smart phone can play along.  We won through a combination of educated guesses and answering as fast as you can.  Thank you Aunt and Uncle!

After dinner we sat around a fire and made s'mores.  Yum!!!

They also had chickens to play with.  That was so much fun!!!

Someone was getting sleepy!

And Daisy lost her first tooth!  Woot!  Unfortunately, it came out while she was swinging and got lost in the grass.  The cousins might have to cut down tooth tree, because we never found it.  She wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy explaining what happened.

On Sunday we had a chill evening at my folks house.  A couple of my brother came up for dinner.  It was awesome to see them.

I don't remember what this kid did, but for some reason we had to wash his hands.

While we were at the reunion and with cousins, my folks picked and juiced all their cherries.  They had a bad battle with the birds this year, which think the cherries belong to them for some reason.

This is the next morning before the drive.  My folks have added on to their house.  Here it is after the fix up.

This is near the end of the drive.  The kids did pretty good.  Fish was getting tired though.

Something didn't go his way and kind of lost it.

I'm happy to report we didn't leave him at that rest stop in the woods in the middle of the Sierras.
